Jennifer Lawrence at Catching Fire Premieres
I am having serious issues with the way people are talking about Jennifer Lawrence re: this Bryan Singer fiasco. I’ve seen too many comments of people saying things like “ugh jlaw WOULD be friends with a pedo” or “wowww first DOR now Singer, when we she stop” like???
DOR aside, I’m alarmed that people are equating saying ignorant things in the past (which, as a fan, I have no problem admitting she was guilty of) with fraternizing with a pedophile/rapist or being aware of Singer’s crimes, simply because they don’t like the person.
Singer didn’t direct XMFC, he was only attached to direct DOFP four months before principal photography began. She had no way of knowing he would be directing, and as it is, she is contractually obligated to Fox for the movies.
In any case, if Singer’s transgressions are such an open secret, where are the pitchforks for Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart? People who have been friends with him and worked with him for over a decade? Why is it that Jennifer Lawrence, who has been in the industry for about seven years, compared to the 20+ of these people, who is much younger and thus sincerely may not be aware of Singer’s off-set behaviors, is immediately branded as being guilty by association while these men, who are much older and much closer to Singer, get off scot free?
This just goes to show that whenever a man does something reprehensible, you better believe that people are going to find a way to place the blame on the closest woman in his proximity. I’d like to say I’m surprised, but I’m really not.
